ViziSense MediaMix beta - India’s First Online Media Planning tool

Earlier today, we brought you the official announcement of ViziSense MediaMix – India’s first online media planning tool. Based on our continuous dialog with the industry, we understand what a pain it is for media planners, buyers and even advertisers to go around planning an online campaign – Where is your target audience? Which sites do they visit? What’s the best way to scale up reach? I’m proud to say that ViziSense MediaMix is designed to answer all these questions!

Developed with the aim of delivering accurate and reliable India-specific Web statistics, the easy-to-use user interface can filter through thousands of websites at a time and identify only those that a selected target audience is most likely to visit.

Launched in a private, invitation-only beta, we’ve been working closely with the top media agencies for the last few months to develop this. We’ve received great encouragement so far from the likes of Tribal DDB, Ignitee, StarCom, NeoOgilvy, Publicis, etc. You can request for an invitation here.

Here’s how it works: Media planners enter their target audience demographics – age, gender, income, education, location and site categories. ViziSense MediaMix will use these filters to determine what sites this audience is visiting, including overall statistics on unique unduplicated visitors, reach, and page views. The planners can see their plan evolve as they pick and choose sites for their online media plan, and can even save, export and compare them for future use.

Komli Media’s winning streak at the Red Herring 100 Global and Asia Awards

Drum roll!! Not just once but TWICE! I’m excited to announce Komli Media has been awarded the Red Herring Global 100 and the Red Herring Asia 100 Award 2008. We are honored to receive this recognition of being among the 100 most innovative private technology companies in the world!

It leaves us a little tingly to be mentioned in the same breath as past winners of this prestigious award - companies like Google, Yahoo!, NetScape and YouTube.

I think the main reasons for our win can be traced to our customers and our team. Every day, we come to work focused on our publisher, agency, and advertiser customers to help be a part of their business. Without their support and, frankly, business, we would have had no chance at this award.

And when I say ‘we’ I am referring to our great team. I, personally, am honored to work with such a great group of people - who focus on our customers, help me learn everyday, who dedicate themselves with such conviction to what we do, and act with integrity. Thank you team for making this award happen!

While it seems like ages since August 2008 when we entered the competition, it feels great to have finally made it to the golden list. What’s more is that a lot has been going on with Komli, especially the last 6 months – our exclusive partnerships with Vizu & PointRoll, cutting-edge brand engagement & reach solutions, vertical networks being introduced and ViziSense – India’s first free and open online audience measurement platform. Our ad network has been growing rapidly both in terms of our team and scale. We look forward to new innovations in 2009 and new horizons to scale!

Komli Media welcomes aboard Prashant Mehta

Well, it’s 2009 and I’m so excited to kick off the year by announcing that Prashant Mehta has joined us at Komli Media as Chief Operating Officer. Prashant joins us from Yahoo! Inc. where he was a senior executive responsible for much of the emerging markets business including India, Southeast Asia, Middle East, Eastern Europe, and Latin America. Wow, it’s a big world out there!

As our business has been growing rapidly (we grew about 300% over the prior year), I have been working aggressively to build our leadership team. We’ve had great folks like Vaishali, Amit and Satish join us recently and we’re still looking to take our company to the next level.

I met Prashant at a small coffee shop about six months back, and we just hit it off! He seemed like my kind of guy — really focused on motivating and working with great people, interested in having real impact in building a business and lots of great insights about how the digital world around us is evolving. I am so excited to welcome him to our team and work together as we build our business. No doubt, times are more challenging than they were a year ago, but it’s at times like this that senior leaders like Prashant, Akshay, Amit, Satish, and Vaishali have management capabilities and insights to steer through that, and hopefully profit from the current economic downturn!

ViziSense: India’s First Free and Open Online Audience Measurement Platform

I’m very excited today to announce the launch of Komli ViziSense, the first free and open audience measurement platform for India that accurately reports details of site visitor demographics and other audience characteristics. ViziSense helps publishers with an independent measurement system, enables advertisers to access and understand their online audience with precision, and allows ViziSense agencies to plan better media buys.

How did this come about? At Komli Media, as we talked with brands, direct marketers, agencies, and publishers we always found questions like “How can we better target our ads?”, “How can we make our ads perform more actively?”, “How do I know who is really looking at my ads?”, “How can I prove to advertisers that I have a good audience?” cropping up. These questions are good questions, and we kept wondering why there was so much trouble answering them. Advertisers and agencies, in particular, have been pushing the envelope looking for solutions that help them better target audiences and build their brands.

Where is the audience

Komli Media is about targeting audiences and technologies. Recently, I spoke at the IAMAI Digital Summit in Mumbai about how ad networks can help marketers reach the incredible audience on the web and reach them in a very targeted way. In addition, publishers are looking at ways to really monetize their audience as best as possible so they can focus on their content. All impressions are not created equal and not all visitors are created equal - but often the industry hasn’t had the data it needs to make informed decisions.

ViziSense is an answer to this! We wanted to create an open, free audience measurement platform for India. Now marketers can easily look up a site and see the age, gender, and income groups that are visiting that site. Publishers have a 3rd party, independent service that proves the quality of their audience.

In addition, publishers can contribute directly to the ViziSense data to make their stats even more accurate. We are collecting gigabytes of data on a daily basis (we estimate that soon we will be collecting 100GB of data a day) in terms of sites consumers are visiting, time spent, behavior on those sites, etc. We believe deeply in the power of technology and its ability to help us all achieve better results. ViziSense is both an application developed by our great team (if I might say so myself), as well as a showcase of the type of technologies we are developing.

We view our ViziSense platform as just that, a platform, that will enable us to launch many new features and capabilities over time. This is, in effect, just a start for us!

When Komli Brought the House Down!

A lot has been happening at Komli Media, all through the month of October. We’ve had reason to celebrate & HOW! Komli Media turned two on October 6th and it’s hard to believe that in a span of two years, we’ve grown to a team of over 70 Komli-ites working out of offices in Pune, Delhi, Bangalore, Palo Alto, New York and our brand new headquarters in Mumbai!

A surprise was in store for Komli-ites, as a lot of them were curious if we were going to celebrate our 2nd anniversary at all. We surprised the entire team, under the pretext of holding an oh-so-boring training, by taking them to Keeno’s Cottage for a fanastic party!

The bash was set perfectly by the beach with a pool and a dance floor to go with! It was good meeting up with the engineering team who came in all the way from Pune, as well as our sales team from Delhi. With yummy Ferrero Rocher choclate cake and playing some crazy team games later, we were all exhausted from partying hard!

But wait! The Komli 2nd Anniversary celebrations didn’t just end there. We had to thank our clients too - without whom our rapid growth would not have happened. The Komli Media Anniversary Party was held at ‘Magic’ - a popular lounge bar in Worli. By 9PM, the venue was packed with the who’s who of the online advertising fraternity. Over 100 people gathered to join in the celebrations, and the energy at the party was just amazing.

Komli raises $7M in Venture Capital
